The DEVI School is currently accepting applications for Head Chef for our upcoming 2018-2019 Academic Year. This position demands excellent organizational and managerial skills, beyond an obvious love of and skill for cooking and baking for others. Our busy school kitchen provides three meals plus two snacks, seven days a week, to about 30 students and 20 adults. The Head Chef is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the kitchen on a day-to-day basis, whether or not he/she is actually involved in preparing a particular meal on a particular day.

The main job of the Head Chef is the planning and preparing of a healthy and balanced menu which reflects, as much as possible, the diverse cultural nature of our students and staff, while managing spending according to the constraints of the catering budget. But additionally the Head Chef is responsible for schedule creation, volunteer management, shopping, ordering food and supplies from local suppliers, and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the kitchen, the dishwashing area as well as the dining room. It is a very important and busy job! The tone of the entire kitchen team is set by the Head Chef, and the aim is for the working relationship between all staff to be happy, dynamic, and relaxed. He/she will be given adequate time off and will certainly be well supported by additional staff and/or volunteers. A valid driver’s license is very helpful in this position.

The successful applicant will have solid experience running a commercial scale kitchen. A good command of spoken and written English is required, but 100% fluency is not essential.

He/she will also be able to make a commitment of at least one full year to the school, and ideally will be available by August 15th, 2018.
