Dorm Aunties & Uncles

Dorm aunties and uncles are the loving care-givers of the DEVI School students; living with them in the dormitories and sleeping there at night. Successful applicants will be those who are willing and able to foster caring and understanding relationships with the students, and be able to love them through thick and thin.

The dorm aunties and uncles are the first line of care for the students. As such they have an important responsibility to be aware of and support the mental, emotional, physical and especially spiritual needs of the students in their care. Applicants should have the confidence and strength of character to maintain high standards of good behaviour and discipline in the dorms.

Dorm staff will also have cleaning, laundry, and some kitchen support duties. A valid driver’s license is very helpful in this position.

Key Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Minimum commitment of one year, preferably two or more
  • Good English speaker
  • Supervise the children whenever they are not in school (cover for time off will be available)
  • Be responsible for good behaviour and discipline, with support from all DEVI School staff
  • Help the children enjoy the full benefit of their own meditation
  • Ensure the students participate with the dorm schedule, fully and on time
  • Ensure the children are clean and well presented
  • Ensure basic health and hygiene regimens are followed
  • Keep the dormitory clean and tidy, with the help of the children
  • Manage laundry
